Locker pickup: A quick way to get what you need

Updated September 6, 2023

Customer retrieving an item from locker
Organizations are seeking new ways to bring efficiencies to the workplace, and our industry is responding by developing technology solutions at a faster rate than ever before. One example is automated locker pickup, a fast emerging retail convenience that’s now gaining traction in B2B applications.

If you’ve used locker pickup at a grocery store or other retail business, you understand why it’s become such a popular option. Simply order the product from an e-commerce platform, receive notification when your order is ready, and retrieve it at your convenience, with minimal waiting or interaction.

ORDER
Now imagine the concept applied to unplanned industrial or construction product needs. If you’re mobile and need access at the supply house, an outdoor locker program provides a convenient solution. You’re no longer limited to will call hours – the product is stored in a secure compartment outside the building, ready when you are. And if you do arrive during regular business hours, you’re able to avoid waiting at the counter while other customers are being served. When you remove the product from the locker, the system creates an electronic receipt of delivery, eliminating the problem of lost or misfiled paperwork. All in all, it’s a faster, more flexible process.

If you prefer product delivery to your location, that option exists as well. It’s a twist on the familiar retail model – the locker device isn’t at a store, but rather within your facility, presenting a different set of benefits. It starts with the assurance that your delivery isn’t sitting out in the open in an unsecured environment (with the clock ticking for you to break away from your current task). No more wondering if your package has been delivered, or looking around trying to find it – you know the exact moment it arrives and exactly where it’s located. On a practical level, it means staying focused on your work instead of being distracted by the nagging question: Is it here yet?

PICKUP
The way we execute the final handoff of orders is changing. There’s a growing expectation to know the product has been ordered, to visualize where that order is in the delivery process, and to have secure and flexible pickup options. Time is a precious resource. A simple process change like locker pickup can deliver daily efficiencies that add up to long-term success.
