How data is holding back your construction success

Construction workers beat the heat
Name a part of life that isn’t rapidly changing. We’d tell you to take your time, but who knows how many changes will happen even while you’re thinking. Because of the unprecedented speed of change, you need to make your company, projects, and supply chains as agile as possible.

To gain that adaptability, you’ll need to make solid decisions up and down your organization. To make those decisions, you’ll need data you can trust. But collecting good data probably hasn’t been at the top of your to-do list.

So, how do you get started? We have three areas you can target.

First, make the move to trustworthy data. Gone are the days of buying pallets of needed items just to know you have them. Why? Because they get in the way or become forgotten. Gone are the days of tracking inventory via paper. The world moves too quickly for any analog system to keep up with. This is why you need to use analytics to forecast needs, streamline your operations, and make decisions based on solid data.

Second, free up your labor. With prices rising everywhere, this is the right moment to take back extra costs by taking back your time. This is your chance to automate your inventory management. The right partner can optimize your tracking, management, and replenishment WHILE collecting that data you need. This means you’re not hunting for a random old pallet of goods anymore. You’ll have visibility over inventory AND you’ll have back the time your people would’ve spent ordering, restocking, or hunting for stuff you swear was previously ordered.

Finally, become more agile. No one knows what’s coming next, so being able to roll with the punches will be critical. You MUST be able to trust your supply chain to deliver exactly what you need, where you need it, and when you need it. This level of precision keeps projects on track and ensures materials are available. In other words, strengthening your supply chain reduces delays and increases efficiency.

WHAT COMES NEXT?
You’re going to want to identify areas for improvement. Some gaps you might find are:
  • DATA: Is the data you’re collecting accurate and up-to-date? Inaccurate data leads to poor decision-making (and inefficiencies).
  • INVENTORY: Evaluate your current inventory management practices. Still using paper-based systems or outdated software? Both can lead to errors and lengthier project timelines.
  • SUPPLY CHAIN: Assess how well your supply chain is coordinated. If there are frequent delays or miscommunications with suppliers, you’ll want to note it and consider what you want in any future supply chain partners.
  • LABOR USE: How is your team being utilized? Are workers spending too much time searching for tools and materials? There are modern fixes for those problems.
  • ANALYTICS: This one’s easy. Right here, right now, you can already tell if you are happy with your analytics or if this is an area that could improve. Forecasting needs leads to streamlined operations. Don’t sleep on this one.
  • SUSTAINABILITY: Are you already using a PPE recovery program? If not, there’s another example of an easy, modern win.

There are a lot of things you can do to help your business, but there may not be a move more important than ensuring you can trust the data you use to guide your decisions. You can transform your construction operations and set your company up for long-term success. But you’ll need to have trustworthy data to make it happen.

Takeaways

Move to Trustworthy Data
In today's fast-paced world, relying on outdated methods like buying pallets of items just to have them on hand or tracking inventory via paper is no longer viable. These practices lead to inefficiencies and forgotten supplies.

To keep up with the rapid changes in the construction industry, it's crucial to transition to trustworthy data. By leveraging analytics, you can forecast needs, streamline operations, and make informed decisions based on solid data. This shift not only optimizes inventory management but also ensures that your company can adapt quickly to changing demands and maintain a competitive edge.

Free Up Your Labor
With rising costs, now is the perfect time to reclaim your team's valuable time by automating inventory management. Partnering with the right provider can optimize tracking, management, and replenishment processes while simultaneously collecting the data you need.

This automation eliminates the need for workers to hunt for misplaced items or manually restock supplies, giving them more time to focus on critical tasks. By improving visibility over inventory and reducing manual labor, you’ll enhance productivity and ensure that your workforce is used effectively.

Become More Agile
In an unpredictable environment, agility is key. You must be able to trust your supply chain to deliver exactly WHAT you need, WHERE you need it, WHEN you need it. This level of precision keeps projects on track and ensures materials are available when required, reducing delays and increasing efficiency.

Strengthening your supply chain coordination and leveraging current data allows you to respond swiftly to changes and challenges, making your construction operations more resilient and adaptable to whatever comes next.
