Concussion Awareness Day happens once a year. But people have heads year-round. So, let’s talk about protecting this ultra-important part of the body.
First, what is a concussion? Well, it’s a type of traumatic brain injury that occurs when the brain is shaken or jolted inside the skull by a blow, bump, or fall. A concussion can affect your brain function and cause symptoms such as headache, dizziness, nausea, confusion, memory loss, and blurred vision. Some symptoms may appear right away, while others may develop hours or days later. A concussion can also increase your risk of developing long-term problems such as chronic headaches, mood disorders, cognitive impairment, and dementia. Concussions are common in many occupations and activities, especially those that would involve physical contact, high speeds, or heights. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 2.8 million people in the United States suffer from concussions each year, and about 50,000 are fatal. Concussions can also have a significant effect on productivity, performance, and quality of life. It's important to recognize the signs and symptoms of a concussion and seek medical attention if you suspect one. As always, it’s best to take steps to prevent them from happening in the first place. How PPE can help prevent concussionsOne of the best ways to prevent concussions is to wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) that can protect your head from impact, penetration, or electrical hazards. Honeywell offers a wide range of PPE products that are designed to meet the highest standards of safety, comfort, and durability.
Whether you work in construction, manufacturing, mining, oil and gas, or any other industry that exposes you to head injury risks, there’s a solution for you.
